Capt. and Mrs. J. R. O’Connor
who were guests of Capt. and Mrs.
C. E. Dimick while enroute from
Florida, have returned to their
home in New London, Conn.
Robert Foster House Burned
The home of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Robert Foster of Mill Spring was
destroyed by fire about 10 Thurs
day morning. The house is near
the Mill Spring school and a pupil
first saw the fire and reported it
to school authorities. Principal
Stanley Walkowicz organized a
rescue squad among the high school
students and they saved all the
furniture and household goods on
the first floor.
New Asst. Farm Agent Here
Robert D. Flake, former assist
ant county agent in Richmond
County has been appointed assist
ant county agent for Polk County,
according to announcement Wed
nesday by County Agent Paul E.
Culberson.
Mr. Flake is 24 .years old, was
reared on a farm in Angon Coun
ty and has a B.S. degree in soils
from North Carolina State College,
graduating in 1949, specializing in
agronomy and agricultural engin
eering.
Mr. Flake recently returned
from Japan after serving as a
commissioned officer in the army,
lie and Mrs. Flake will occupy
the Loyd Comer house near tho
Tryon Country Club road entrance.
Here From South America
Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Huxley
of Evanston, 111., are arriving in
Tryon today for a 10 days' visit
with their daughter, Mrs. Robert
L. Dick, and family, after a
three months tour of South
America.
Guy H. Sowards wiii be in
charge* of the Tryon Rotary Club
program Friday at 1 p. m., and
will have as the subject of his
talk: “Pity the Lawyer.”
