has spent considerable time with
his family in Tryon and Mrs. Al
brecht was active in civilian de
fense and rationing in Tryon dur
ing World War II. Miss Jane
Albrecht is now living in Paris

F. W. GODDARD
Frederic Worth Goddard died
suddenly Sunday afternoon, May 3,
of a heart attack following a
long illness.
Mr. Goddard came to Tryon in
1946. He was born in Plainfield,
N. J., son of George H., and
Elizabeth Newton Goddard. He
graduated from Amherst, class ox
1898 of which he was still class
president at the time of his death.
He was associated with the firm of
Johnson & Higgins, Insurance Ad
justers for 45 years.
He was an officer in the Essex
troop of New Jersey, serving with
that organization in the Mexican
border war.
In World War I he was with
the Blue and Gray division, sta
tioned at Anniston, Ala., where
as captain of artillery he became
aid to General Rafferty. In France
he served as a staff officer with
General Holbrook in the Meuse
Argcnne engagements.
Mr. Goddard leaves a widow,
Gladys Benjamin Goddard, two
sons, Geoffrey and Edward Nichols
Goddard and three sisters, Harriet
and Elizabeth Goddard, and Mrs.
John F. Carlson of Woodstock,
New York.
Private funeral services will be
held Tuesday afternoon at the
residence, with the Rev. Charles L.
McGavern, rector of Holy Cross
Church, officiating.
