Ilobert Wagner author of the
Wagner Act, Labor Relations Act,
and leader of the WPA, PWA,

lation, died Monday at 75; was a
native of Germany. . . . This is
another busy week, lhe municipal
elections in Tryon, Columbus and
Saluda today; Kiwanis in Tryon
at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall to hear
Vice-President C. S. Reed of Duke
Power Co., Charlotte; a number of
church groups meet this afternoon
and tonight. The Tryon, Mill
Spring Methodist Churches have
evangelistic services underway
every night this week. The public
is invited to all of them. . . WED
NESDAY is a big day at Mill
Soring when 500 women, members
of the 6th district of Home Demon
stration clubs will met at the
Mill Spring school at 10 a. m., and
adjourn at 3:30. ‘The district in

Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Announced For Tryon High
Winners of the top' scholastic
honors o fthe 1953 graduating class
of Tryon High School are Fred
Bridgeman, valedictorian, and Em
ma Warmby, salutatorian, Supt.
Brank Proffitt, who made the an
nouncement said: “In order to
qualify for valedictorian and salu
tatorian, Fred and Emma had to
have the best high school scholastic
records among the members of the
graduatin gclass.”
Fred is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. B. Bridgeman of Lynn, and
Emma is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Warmby of Tryon.
In addition to their scholastic
attainment, both these young people
have been outstanding in other ac
tivities. Fred was president of his
class during his first year in high
school and vice president during
his sophomore and junior years.
As a senior, he was co-editor of
the “Tryonite” and had a part in
the senior play. Emma is a cheer
leader, a member of the Beta Club,
Boosters Club, Glee Club, and
“Tryonite” staff, and she also had
a part in the senior play.
MARYLAND MAN TO
JUDGE GOAT SHOW
The Board of the Western Caro
linas Dairy Goat Association has
announced that its Fourth Annual
Show, to be held at Harmon Field
on Saturday afternoon, May 23,
will be judged by Allan L. Rogers,
of Burtonsville, Maryland.
Mr. Rogers is a geneticist by
training, a graduate of the Uni
versity of Connecticut, and is ani
mal husbandman of the Veterinary

Medlchl Center, at Washington,
D. C., in charge of the production
