municipal elections are over. The
people have expressed their wish
es. All candidates, winners and
losers, are to be praised for tak
ing part in this important civic
event. There is no reflection on the
losers. Sometimes the best man
and the best friend is supporting
a platform that does not meet the
approval of the voters. In later
elections the same candidate chang
es his platform and sometimes is
elected. Often the voters are edu
cated to see the light of the defeat
ed candidate and change their
minds. This shuffling back and
forth to find the most acceptable
program of government suitable
to the best interests of the ma
jority, makes our country progres
sive and strong against commun
ism, gangersterism and political
bosses. Now let’s get together and
see how much we can get the new
governments in our communities
to do within their power. They
need the cooperation of all of us.
Gay Blades Meet Friday
The Gay Blade Garden club will
meet Friday at 3:30 p. m. at the
home of Mrs. David Wenstrand in
Gillette Woods.

Tryon municipal voters endorsed
the present administration’s pro
gram Tuesday by returning Er
nest Kerhulas and E. L. Tollison
with Charles Landkford, a new
candidate taking the place of R.
B. Scruggs who did not offer
again. Mayor C. D. Stevens who
was unopposed received 443 votes
of the 588 votes cast from a total
registration of 735.
Vice-Mayor Ernest Kerhulas
offering for his fourth term led
the ticket with 400 votes: Charles
Lankford, 391; E. L. Tollison,
344; Bob Adams, 245; Harrison
Bridgeman Jr., Ill; George D.
Cooksey, 105; Eugene Mi. Jones, 90.

In a three way race at Saluda
veteran political leader and for
mer county commissioner John T.
Coates was elected mayor with 138
votes over Edward Leland with
46 and retiring mayor, G. L.
Thompson with 43.
Commissioners elected were Wil
liam Pace with 103; Nolan Pace,
93; and Charles Ward 90. Other
candidates: M. C. Staton 74; El
bert Pace Jr., 49; Fred Akin, 39;
Hamp Middleton 4.
[COLUMBUS]
In a spirited race at Columbus
Mayor Burley Johnson was re
elected to his fourth term by a
vote of 135 over his opponent, W.
.W. Breazeal with 99 votes.
For town commissioner Robert
Head with 125 and Hoyt Pack with
113, were re-elected and Douglas
Roper, a newcomer with 84 votes
form the new council. Other can
didates: Cecil Smith, 81; Lonnie
Hall,, 75; Willie Slpurlin, 74; E.
