The thermometer reading dropped below 60 . . . Tryon Bank & Trust Company will be closed Saturday, May 30th for Memorial Day. This gives patrons only Fri day to do banking business until Monday morning. The post office will be closed, too, except for two hours from 10 to 12. Probably some other government agencies will also be closed, but no an nouncement has been made .... Tryon Country Club is planning a big day Saturday with a two ball Steotch foursome tournament starting at 1:30 and a picnic at j 6:30. The picnic will be served I at the club house by Pine Crest I inn, Dut reservations must t>e ! made as soon as possible at the club office, tel. 440-W. Prizes will be awarded for various contests. James G. Ferguson made one of his best records at the Country Club the other day when he shot a 34 including four birdies, three of them in a row. Good putting played a big part . . . The Rev. Joe Wagner will be the guest spegker at Rotary Friday and will talk on Minority Religious Groups in America. Isham Henderson has charge of the program . . . . j COLUMBUS NEWS NOTES By Mrs. Alice T. Clarke Miss Charlotte Edwards of Rutherford Hospital spent the week-end with home folk. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hampton of Raeford, Mrs. J. F. Arnold of Portsmouth, Va., Mesdames S. E. Waldrop and J. M. Hodge of Rutherfordton were recent guests in the home their sister, Mrs. J. A. Feagan. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Burgess Jr., and daughter, Vicky, visited in High Point last week-end. They were accompanied home by Mrs. W. A. Burgess Sr., who had been with her invalid mother, Mrs. James Monroe for several weeks. The women of the Presbyterian Church met in the home of Mrs. J. W. Gantt on Tuesday evening. At this meeting they celebrated the birthday party and enjoyed an interesting program in which Mrs. Frank Moore, Mrs. J. W. Gantt, Mesdames John J. and Jack Rezab and Mrs. T. C. Bailey participated. The birthday objective this year is “Furlough Homes for Mission aries”. Mr. and Mrs. Wash Hill of Rutherfordton were Saturday visi tors in our town. Mr. and Mrs. J. Louie Tilley oi L,eDanon, u., are visiting Mr. Tilley’s parents, Mir. and Mrs. G. T. Tilley. Marion Tillotson, who was severely burned while at work last week was able to return to his home Monday from St. Luke’s Hospital. Week-end guests of Mrs. Mollie Shields and Mrs. J. A.
