gave a verdict Thursday in Colum
bus that Edwin Ball came to his
death by person or persons un
known to the jury. Consequently

withdrawal of the first degree mur
charge upon which Mr. Rhodes
was arrested on warrant signed
by a brother-in-law of the de
ceased. On the charge of assault
on his wife, Mrs. Stella Rhodes,
on warrant signed by their daugh
ter, Mrs. Roy Dalton, the defend
ant was released on $500 bond
for appearance at a magistrate
court later. Time and place not set.

Opening of Country Club Pool
The Tryon Country Club .swim

for use by members and their
families Saturday afternoon. Mem

morning. Miss Ann Bowen, who is
arriving home from Agnes Scott
College, will be in charge.

Address Club Tuesday

unable to meet his speaking date
at the Tryon Kiwanis Club last
week is^ expected to be the Club’s
speaker’s Tuesday.
ROY GAINES
Roy Gaines, 57, died Thursday
in the Veterans Administration
Hospital, at Vancouver, Washing
ton, where he had been ill for
°ome time following, service in
World War II.
The body will be returned to
Tryon next week for burial on the
family lot.
Mr. Gaines was a son of fvP into
Mr. and Mrs. Wright J. Gaines,
opd helrwd his father in the build
ing business for many years. He
is survived by his brother, Paul
Gaines, a-d an aunt, Mrs. Maggie
Hart of Saluda.
Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Ballew re
ceived news of his death from the
government and are making the
contacts with family and friends.
