Weatherman Creasman said the thermometer reading dropped the fastest he had ever seen it in Tryon Wednesday when it fell 26 degrees, from 97 to 71 in about 20 minutes. The storm that passed over Tryon without doing any damage, uprooted trees and did thousands of dollars worth of damage in the mountains above us and went on to Woodruff in Spar tanburg County, S. C., and Greer, S. C., and did more damage with 65 miles per hour wind, rain and hail, disrupting electric and tele phone service. Woodruff was with out outside communications. W. L. Roach of Tryon was at Woodruif around 6 o’clock when the storm struck. He was in his truck headed home and the wind was picking up his truck and moving it about. Leppard. Mrs. Genia Poag and grand daughter, Susie Gilliam, are on an extended visit with Mrs. Poag’s son, Roy C. Poag and family at Dayton, Va. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Shields and children, Buddy and Aline of John ston, S. C., were week-end guests of Mrs. Shields’ mother, Mrs. Mol lie Shields. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burgess Jr. and daughter, Vickie, and Mrs. W. A. Burgess have returned after spending several days vacationing in the Mountains at Cullowhee. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gilliam of Kingsport, Tenn., were week-end guests of Mr. Gilliam’s brother, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Gilliam. Mr. and Mrs. James T. Thomp son spent the past week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson and family. Mrs. Preston Splawn and daugh ters, Harriette and Margaret, left Sunday for Cullowhee, where Mrs. Splawn will attend Western North Carolina Teachers College the first six weeks. Harriette and Mar garet will enroll in the Training School. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Simmerson of Salisbury, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. I.onnie Hall.
