ning their 150th birthday Sunday,
June 21, when 800 people are ex
pected to take part either in the
service or with the dinner on the
ground. Dr. C. Penrose St.’Amant,
New Orleans, noted historian, will
be chief speaker. Public invited . . .
Another important birthday is that
of James R. Trowbridge, who is
82 today. His leadership in reor
ganizing the Country Club at a
critical time; his leadership in ex
panding the activities of the Ro
tary Club; his contributions to the
educational and agricultural de
velopment of the county as a whole
h-ve nlf>ced him in the top ranks
of notable citizens who have rend
ered outstanding communitv ser
vice just for the love of serving
their fellowman. We jo;n the many
others in honoring him with our
appreciation . . . The whole coun
ty is getting ready to buv brooms
and mats from the Lion Club mem
bers. Monev derived from these
brooms help the blind. A noble
cause. Who can afford not to buy
one or more?

JOHNNY TAYLOR PASSES
John K. Taylor, 16-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Taylor
of Lynn, died Thursday morning
at 10:60 at Duke Hospital, Dur
ham, after five months illness
with leukemia.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday at 2 p. m., at Lynn Paco

Finley Orr officiating. Burial will

Johnny was a member of the
10 th grade Tryon High School.
He received a letter in football
j last year. He became ill in Febru
1 ary of this year. Many trips were
| made to specialists in an effort to
! save his life.

I Marion Rufus Champion, 30, son
of Mrs. Hellen Constance Cham
pion and the late Butler Champion'
of Tryon, was killed in an auto
wreck Thursday n’ght about 3:30
| while driving alone near the
I Peniel Baptist Church south of
Columbus. He lived in Green Creek
I and was employed bv the Southern
I Mercerizing' Co., in Tryon.
