Tryon was graduated this week at
Northwestern University drama
tics school as one of the top three
in her class .... Robert Head of
Columbus, a graduate of Tryon
school, has just finished Spartan
burg junior College where he was
awarded a scholarship to Wofford
College, and Miss Edith Melton
received a scholarship to Converse
College. . . . Sheriff Ralph Mat
thews of Russell County, Ala., was
on trial for five days last week
before the Supreme Court in Mont
gomery for neglect of duty. Qver
100 witnesses were used. Five Rus
sell County citizens brought the
charges against the sheriff.
Rhodes Hearing Friday
A preliminary trial to hear
charges against J. L. Rhodes on
a warrant sworn out by his daugh
ter, Mrs. Genelle Rhodes Dalton,
will be held Friday at 2:30 p. m. at
the Court House in Columbus, ac
cording to Magistrate T. A. Gil
liam, who issued the warrant. The
warant charges assault on Mrs.
Rhodes with a pistol.
McGuinn Reunion Sunday
At Cooper’s Gap Church

official mimeographed newspaper
| called the McGuinn Review which
j is boosting a large attendance for
Sunday, Father’s Day. The Re
view states that Sadie S. Patton,
author of Sketches of Polk County
History, will give a talk on the
value of family reunions and home
comings; a guest minister will give
a sermon; officers for the new year
will be elected. The Review also
gives a brief summary of the ma
jor events in the McGuinn family
the past year.
Hobo Party Here Friday
A Hobo Party with everyone
dressed in patched and ragged
clothing will be held by the Fel
lowship Group of the Congrega
tional Church Friday, June 19th,
at 7 p. m. at Lake Lanier Tea
House. A picnic supper will be
served to the hoboes.
Ligon Flynn leaves Wednesday
for six weeks’ training with the
ROTC at Fort Belvoir, Va.
