Charles Henry Garrison and
wife of Greenville, S. C., are
guests of Dr. Lesesne Smith in
Saluda. Editor Garrison, a na
tive of Laurens, S. C., was for
many years editor of the Green
ville Piedmont where he started
his column, “Caught on the Wing”
the oldest column in South Caro
lina, which is now appearing in
the famous Anderson (S. C.) In
dependent.
Uditor Garrison has also served
as sports editor, and was a pioneer
in the organization of Textile
Baseball Leagues, and was presi
dent of the Western Carolina
League for 31 years. A civic and
religious leader of his community
he has been a member of the
Lions Club for 30 years and has
served as district governor of
South Carolina. While in Polk
County he will gather material for
articles to use in his column.
Noted Speaker At Rotary
R. C.' Burnett will be in charge
of the Tryon Rotary Club Friday
at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall hotel and
will have as guest speaker, Col.
Robert J. Putnam, an executive
of the Champion Paper and Fibre
Co. of Canton, N. C. He has a
leave of absence from the com
pany to make addresses on
“Americanism”. Dr. Kerr ison
Juniper who has heard him is high
in praise of him as a speaker.
