Cameron Morrison of North Caro
lina, 83, died of a heart attack
in Quebec, -Canada, Thursday,
while on a motor tour with his
grandson, James J. Harris Jr-.
Morrison was known as the “Good
Roads” Governor, and served both
in the U^S. Senate and House of
Representatives. He headed the
North Carolina delegation to the
National Democratic convention in
Chicago and helped nominate
Adlai Stevenson. Funeral arrange
ments have not been announced.
. . . . No duplicate bridge tour
nament in Tryon this week on ac
count of the tournament in Ashe
ville .... The Town of Tryon
has put out attractive new trash
receptacles on the business streets.
Now if thoughtless persons can be
educated to see the__ importance

make the community cleaner. The

I MRS. MAUD BOND LEE
Mrs. Maud Bonu Lee, 85, passed
at St. Luke’s Hospital Thursday,
morning at 9:3o after an illness*
of some months. She had been
at the hospital since last April.
Mrs. Lee was a native of Eng
land and a member of the Epis
copal Church. She was twice mar
ried. The first time to a Mr. Bond
and the second time tn John E.
i Lee, prominent business man of
New York City. She is survived
by a step son, Edgerton Lee, of
Paris, France, manager of the
Paris office of the International
News Service, who with his wife,
the Paris editor of Vogue, spent
some time here this spring.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lee
will be held Saturday afternoon
at 3 at the McFarland Funeral
Home with the Rev. Charles L.
McGavern, officiating. Interment
in Tryon Cemetery.
Miss MacGregor Honored
The Polk County Council of
Social Agencies gave a picnic
Thursday evening at Pearson’s
Falls in honor of Miss Jeannette
MacGregor, who retired recently as
superintendent of the Polk County
Welfare Department.
Following the dinner a certificate
I of appreciation in recognition of
I her 12 years of service to the
I welfare of the whole county was
i presented by Miss Elena Garcia
I in behalf of the council.
