Tryon lost its first football game
of the season Friday night to
District No. 1 of South Carolina,
26 to 0, before the largest crowd
ever seen at Harmon Field foot
hall game The new portable steel
bleachers were appreciated by the
audience and except for one or
two persons standing up in front
near the players bench to block the
view of the first row, all the fans
got a good view of the game and
remained in their seats except be
tween halves when they visited and
watched the Inman band give a
performance. The football field en
closed by a fence with two en
trances, makes it easier for cars
to enter Harmon Field and get
narked quickly. New guard cables,
markers and other accessories
brought the praise of many Tryon
football lovers . . . Democratic
leaders meeting todav in Chicago.

of movies died of heart attack
Saturday . . . Robert Carlisle,
prominent Spartanburg lawver
and civic leader, died Saturday
night of a heart attack . . . “Reach
ing from Heaven” is the name of
a wholesome movie at Tryon Thea
tre Tuesday and Wednesday. It

Life Saving Blood Here
There were 123 pints of blood
donated Friday for the Blood Bank
in Polk County; 78 pints from
Tryon and 45 from Columbus unit.
A little short of the goal, but
officials were grateful to all the
volunteer workers and donors who
made it possible for the Bloodmo
bile to come to Tryon. Without the
donation Polk County people could
not get free blood when they need
it. iNine new members entered
the gallon club as follows: Mrs.
Katherine Metcalf, W. Fred
Swann, Renous Morton, Mrs. Mar
garet Scott Dye, Clement D. Stev
ens, Lee Cowan, John L. Edwards,
Col. Norme D. Frost, Miss Susan
Simpson.
There are now 42 members of
the gallon club. Mrs. Henry Hart
donated her 25th pint Friday. A
number of the 42 will soon enter
the two gallon club.
HOSPITAL NEWS
New patients at St. Luke’s Hos
pital include Mrs. George S. Vos
burgh Jr., who had an operation.
