A major change lias been made
in the State brush burning law,
which became effective Oct. 1 and
will remain in effect until next
June 1, according to Joseph B.
Ritchie, Polk County forest ranger.
The law, which was rewritten
by the 1963 State General As
sembly, makes it unlawful for
any person, firm or corporation
to start or cause to be started any
fire or ignite any material in any
of the woodlands under protection
of the State Forest Service, or
within 500 feet of anv such pro
tected area, during the hours start
ing at midnight and ending at 4
p. m.*, without first securing a
| permit.
