VETERANS NOTICE
The North Carolina Veterans
Commission will have a represen
tative, Jack C. Winchester, District
Service Officer, with the County
Service Officer, Columbus, on
Thursday, Dec. 3, from 11 a. m.,
to 4 p. m. to assist the County
Service Officer with various claims.
Mr. Winchester stated that
many veterans of the Korean War
must enter Education or On-Job
Training courses before Aug. 20,
1954, in order to receive these
benefits as the law states that
Korean veterans must enter train
ing on or before August 20, 1954,
or within two years after date of
discharge from service, whichever
is later. Certain service connect
ed disabled yeterans are not bound
by this cut-off date as they would
train or go to school under a
different law.
The service officer also stated
that veterans who are interested1
in and eligible for Direct Veter
ans Administration Home Loans,
either WW II or Korean, have
until June 30, 1954, in which to
apply.
Vets who have a condition be
lieved to have resulted from ser
vice should file application as soon
as possible after discharge in order
to obtain service connection if
possible. Veterans or their depend
ents should contact the service
officer for any assistance on these
and other inquiries, Mr. Winches
ter pointed out.
