Legion Makes Chmistmas Plans for Underpriviledged At the American Legion meet ing "Tuesday night plans were made to help make 250 underpri viledged children happy at Christ mas. Commander Howard Greene has asked that anyone wishing to help in this project may leave toys or checks at the Avant Elec trict Co. or at Arledge Hardware. The Legion congratulated the winners of the Voice of Democracy Contest and awarded 5 cash prizes. It was also agreed to pay for the school lunches of one underpri viledged child for the current schooL year. HOSPITAL NEWS Boyce Howard of Saluda was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital. Mrs. Genevieve Midleton of Tryon was. discharged. YOUR DIMES WILL HELP Robert Lee Jones of Charlotte spoke on the Infantile Paralysis Foundation Tuesday at Kiwanis. Mr. Jones, a North Carolina rep resentative of the foundation was introduced by Craig B. Thomas, chairman of the Polk County Chapter. The speaker told how the March of Dimes began with the Birthday Balls given in honor : of the late President Roosevelt ! and how it has grown through the years. The money raised by the March of Dimes is used to help our fami lies and communities with finan cial aid "and to promote research to combat polio.
