give something toward the Christ
mas Trees on Trade St.” said a

person who didn’t give anything.

by Charlie Lynch, Tom Costa,
Carter Brown and some others.
Most of the work was done by vol
unteers for there wasn't much
money. It is now hard to find
volunteers free to work on the
committee. None will go out on the
street to beg money. So the
Christmas tree lights on Trade
Street are from the hearts of those
who wish everyone a merry Christ
mas. There is nothing commercial
about it. No one has been asked
to give. No strings to this gift

Santa In Tryon Tuesday
Santa Claus riding' a fire truck
will bring a truck load of 1,500
jbags of candy and fruit to the
Firemen’s Christmas tree near the
post office Tuesday at 6 p. m., ac
cording to Wofford Foster, chair
man of the committee.
All children, rich and poor,
white and colored, in and out of
town, will be given bags of candy
and fruit as a token of love from
the Spirit of Santa Claus em
bodied in the hearts of the Tryon
Fire Department and their friends
who are helping to finance the
project.
Yule lights on Yew trees. The
beautiful jblue lighted star crested
Yew tree in the railway park
will be a drawing card to show
the young people where to go.
Somewhere between there and the
neighborhood of the post office the
Christmas bags will ibe distributed
by the firemen. Mr. Foster said
the program would be over at 7
p. m. as there were other Christ
mas programs in the community.
