President Carter suspended on Wednesday all licenses to export high technology items to the Soviet Union and froze all further shipments, continuing his step ped-up protest of the Soviet intervention of Afghanistan. A major newsprint maker has announced a price increase which will have leave prices for the paper used in newspaper 25 percent higher than they were at the beginning of last year. Wilson of Mill Spring has announced as a candidate for County Commissioner, subject to the Republican primary. Mr. Wilson has been active in political and civic affairs for many years. He served as mail carrier and as constable for White Oak Township for 12 years. He also served as magistrate in White Oak Township. He is presently serving as a Water and Soil Supervisor for Polk County. Mr. Wilson was raised on a farm in Cooper Gap Township. He is married to the former Gertrude Phillips of Mill Spring. They have five daughters and 3 sons. Arrested Sheriff Boyce Carswell report ed Thursday morning that Steve Flynn, 19, of Tryon was arrested in Burke County Wednesday on 6 drug related charges. His 1971 Pinto was confiscated. Bond was set at $30,000. Jim Clement of Rt. 3, Landrum returns today from a week in San Antonio, Texas where he has been going to school pertaining to his job relating to computer programming. Tryon School Bd. Meets Monday The Tryon School Board will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tryon High School. Files For House Mrs. Edith Lutz Mrs. Edith Lutz of Lawndale has filed for re-election to the N. C. House of Representatives subject to the Democratic Primary. Mrs. Lutz said that she had tried to work for everything that would benefit the three counties that she served and that she had tried to be a good public servant. Mrs. Lutz said that she would like to continue to serve the people of the 40th District. She stated that she had communicat ed with her constituents as much as possible and had tried to vote their wishes. A life-long Democrat, Mrs. Lutz, her husband and son, are in the apple business. A Methodist, she is serving on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland County Mental Health, on the Board of Vocational Workshop in Rutherford County and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Continued On Back Page For State Senate Sen. Joe H. Palmer State Senator Joe H. Palmer, a farmer from Clyde, has announc ed that he will seek re-election for a fourth term. Palmer has served the 27th Senatorial District since 1975. The district is made up of the ten western most counties in North Carolina...Clay, Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Polk, Swain and Transylvania. During the last session of the legislature Palmer served as chairman of Veterans and Military Affairs, Vice-chairman of Agriculture, and as a member of Transportation, Appropriation, Ways and Means, Wildlife and Public Utilities and Energy committees. Palmer was appointed to serve on the Advisory Budget Commis sion which meets monthly to review requests for the budget which will be submitted to the Legislature in June.
