State football coach, who recently went to LSU, was on a plane that crashed off the Virginia coast. Tryon City School are closed Continued On Back Page Metcalf Files For School Board Andy Metcalf of Sunny View has filed for the non-partisan Polk County School Board to represent Cooper’s Gap Town ship. He was appointed to the School Board in November to succeed James Cochran, who resigned when he moved from the Township. Mr. Metcalf, a native of Polk County, attended Sunny View Elementary School and graduat ed from Polk Central High School. He is married to the former Judy Price, and they have a son, Mark, who is in the fifth grade at Sunny View. He is president of the Sunny View PTA and is active in the Sunny View Fire Department, and Big Level Baptist Church. Arrested Earl Clifton Fleming, 61, of Rt. 3, Landrum gave himself up Friday at 10 a.m. at the Polk County Sheriff’s Dept. A warrant had been out for Fleming’s arrest during the recent drug raids. Fleming had 10 drug related charges against him and his bond was set at $50,000. Arrested Sheriff Boyce Carswell report ed Friday morning that Robert Hanford (Robby) Tucker, 21, was arrested Thursday in Forest City on four drug related charges. His bond was set at $20,000. Named To First-Citizens Bank Board of Directors Jack T. Ward Jack T. Ward has been elected to the local board of directors of First-Citizens Bank & Trust Co. in Hendersonville, Lewis R. Holding, chairman of the board, announced. As a member of the local board, he will assist bank management in business de velopment and policy matters and will serve as an additional liaison between the community and the bank. Ward is manager of Ward Oil Co. and Thompson’s Store in Saluda. A native and current resident of Saluda, he is president of the Saluda Development and Improvement Corp, and serves on the board of directors of Saluda Medical Center. He is a charter member of the Saluda Lions Club, served as a member of the City Council for 12 years Continued On Back Page Tryon Federal Has Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Tryon Federal Savings and Loan Association was held January 9th. Directors whose terms expired were W. L. Hague and Thomas P. Johnson, both of whom were re-elected. The Directors and Officers are as follows: J. Russell Constance, President and Managing Officer; Thomas P. Johnson, Chairman, board of Directors; W. L. Hague, Vice-Chairman, Board of Di rectors; Henry S. Huntsinger, Vice Chairman, Board of Directors; J. Charles Cowan, Director; Robert B. Scruggs, Director; Ray J. Foster, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer; Brenda B.
