This cluster, also known as the Beehive cluster, is of magnitude 4 and can be seen easily with the naked eye. Look for a bright fuzzy spot between the stars Delta and Gamma in the constellation of Cancer. M 67 is also in the constellation of Cancer and is of magnitude 6. Binoculars will be needed to find this open star cluster which is about 8 degrees southeast of M 44. The star Castor in Gemini is a double star. A small telescope will resolve this star into it’s two components which are of magni tudes 2 and 2.8. The stars A and B on the starmap are both variable stars. Star A, which is Eta Geminorum, changes from magnitude 3.1 to 3.9 and back again over a period of 234 days. Star B, which is Zeta Geminorum, changes from mag nitude 3.7 to 4.1 and back again over a period of just over 10 days. ACCURATE CLOCK Scientists at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab- ortary have developed a clock that can measure time to a trillionth of a second and remain accurate to a millionth of a second over three years. The clock takes the form of a hydrogen maser, a device that measures time from energy emitted by stimulated hydrogen atoms. wed. ■tow Sat. Andrews Furniture Co. Phone 859-9260 Tryon, N. C.
