Man Killed In
Traffic Accident
Carl Edward Harrelson, 49, of
Mobile, Alabama was killed in a
traffic accident on I-26 here. The
body was discovered by David
Jackson who found him Sunday
about 2:30 p.m., but he was
believed to have been dead since
sometime Saturday night.
Patrolman David Satterfield
who investigated the wreck said
that the 1980 GMC pick-up truck
was apparently headed west on
1-26 when it went off the right of
the road near the Morgan Chapel
overpass, then the truck went off
into the medium and rolled over
and turned around and headed
east in the east bound lane and
then rolled off into a deep ravine.
Mr. Harrelson was thrown out,
and the truck apparently rolled
over him and then continued on
down the deep ravine.
Patrolman Satterfield said that
the wrecked truck was almost
hidden from the road even when
you were standing at the edge of
the road. The truck was owned by
Key GMC Truck, Inc. of Mobile.
It is believed Mr. Harrelson fell
alseep at the wheel.
This was the first traffic
fatality in Polk County in over a
year. Last year there wasn’t a
traffic fatality in Polk County
according to Patrolman Satter
field.
