Tryon Daily Bulletin, Tues., Feb. 5, 1980 Chapman Wins Two From Landrum The Chapman Panthers won a basketball doubleheader from Landrum Saturday night at Landrum. The Chapman girls won 66-54 and the boys 63-52. Gwen Whiteside was the Chapman girls high scorer as she racked up 24 points. The Landrum girls were led by Ann Walker with 30 points and Marylou Thomson with 16 points. The Pantherettes, who held a 34-20 halftime lead are now 13-6 while Landrum is 5-10. The Chapman boys avenged an earlier loss to Landrum as Terry Hines scored 16 points and Lee Henderson 14. For Landrum Frank McDowell had 18 points and Ricky McDowell 17 points. The Chapman boys are now 11-8 and the Landrum boys are 9-9. The Polk Central girls won 48-23 and the Rosman boys squeezed out a $8-56 win in overtime. The Polk Central girls had an easy time of it as they jumped out to a lead and by halftime were out front 31-6. Kelli Sheehan and Dina Smith had 12 points each for Polk Central. Rosman had a 33-26 lead at halftime, but the Polk Central boys rallied in the second half to tie the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation play. Rosman’s Jeff Whitmire who had 35 points for the game, hit five in overtime as the Tigers avenged an earlier loss to the Patriots. Kim Galloway joined Whitmire in double figures with 18 points.
