Tonight the Tryon High
basketball teams close out their
home season against Rosman.
Thursday night is busy. The
Heart Fund Benefit Dinner is at
Garrison Chapel Baptist Church
with the a seating at 6 and 7:30
p.m. The Tryon Carrousel
Theater presents “The Lion Who
Wouldn’t” at 7:30 at the Tryon
Elementary School Auditorium.
It is a Children’s Theater
Production presented by students
of the Tryon Elementary School
and directed by Rick Hammond,
artist-in-residence.
Sunday at 3 p.m. Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Flack will show their recent
pictures on China at the Fine Arts
Center.

from an inedible oyster of
the genus Meleagrina that
lives in warm parts of the
Pacific. Edible oysters never
produce valuable pearls.

DESTROYED BY FIRE

The fire is believed to have
started with electric heat tape on
the water pipes. The family lost
everything and at present are
staying with Mr. Edwards’
parents.
Neighbors and friends are
attempting to help the family
with clothes and expenses. If
anyone has anything to donate

4 years old and needs all clothes
and so does their daughter
Michelle, age 2.
The Mill Spring and the
Columbus Volunteer Fire Depar-
partments answered the call, but
the fire had made too much
headway before they arrived.

Mrs. E. N. Bulick
Mrs. Wavelen Feagan Bulick,
73, of Columbus died Monday at
St. Luke’s Hospital after a long
illness. She was the widow of
Emmor Nelson Bulick.
She was the daughter of the late
Otis and Mossie Sue Hampton
Feagan. She had made her home
in Troy, Michigan for many years
before returning to Columbus
five years ago.
She is survived by two sons,
Emmor Nelson Bulick, Jr.,
Dearborn Heights, Mich, and
ThomasBulick, Springfield, Mo.;
two brothers, Gray Feagan,
Gastonia and Charlie Feagan,
Columbus; four sisters, Mrs.
Mary F. Hicks, Mrs. Grace
Walker and Mrs. Lucy Christo
pher, all of Columbus and Mrs.
Myrl Mathews, .Washington,
Mich.; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-
grandchildren.

New Greenskeeper
At Tryon
Country Club
Bruce Wilson has been ap
pointed to the position of
Superintendent of Grounds and
Greens at the Tryon Country
Club. A native of Polk County,
Mr. Wilson is a graduate of
Western Carolina University with
a Bachelor of Science degree in
Marketing Management. He
replaces Hemon Burns, who has
requested that he be relieved of
the full responsibility of greens
keeper; however, Mr. Burns will
continue on with the Club as a
working consultant.
Although Mr. Wilson had
successfully embarked on an
industrial career with Deering
Milliken Textiles, he really
wanted to become a greenskeep
er. He was born and raised
’ adjacent to the Tryon Country
Club and worked there during the
summers for ten years as a caddy
and maintenance man. He came
to work again at the Country Club
on May 1,1979, as an assistant to
Mr. Burns, the Dean of North
Carolina greenskeepers. Mr.
Wilson belongs to a family of
dedicated greenskeepers. Be
sides his grandfather, Hemon
Burns, who was Superintendent
of Grounds and Greens at Tryon
and Red Fox Country Clubs over
a period of 35 years, he has three
uncles who are presently em
ployed as greenskeepers at
Biltmore, Charlotte, and Red Fox
Country Clubs.
