Donate a pint of life saving
blood when the Red Cross
Bloodmobile is at the Holy Cross
Episcopal Church Parish Hall in
Tryon next Monday, February
18th from 12:30 tb 5:30.
Blood contributed in Tryon
goes primarily to St. Luke’s
Hospital and to doctors in this
area. It could help assure the
recovery of a sick or injured
neighbor or friend.
The need for life saving blood
remains high,- but contributions
have not increased with the rate
of need, and the Red Cross hopes
more people will participate next
Monday.
In the past six months St.
Luke’s has used 591 pints of
'blood, a Red Cross spokesman
said. In the same period
donations by Tryon area resi
dents have been only 414 pints, a
critical shortfall unless the pace
of donations increases. The Red
Cross has stressed in promoting
the Bloodmobile program the
theme “What if you needed
blood...and there wasn’t any?”
“We are fast approaching that
situation”, the Red Cross
warned.
Anyone who is more than 17
years old, weighs more than 110
lbs. and in good health can donate
blood, the Red Cross said. Blood
donors come from all age groups
over 17 and from all areas of
communities around Tryon.
Students from the three high
schools have participated and the
Red Cross hopes that more will
this time.
The process is easy. Simply
come to the Parish Hall at your
convenience next Monday be
tween 12:30 and 5:30. You will be
examined by a qualified nurse
who will take your blood
pressure, pulse and medical
history. It takes only six to eight
minutes to transfer a pint' of your
blood to the' blood bank.
So be a happy, living Valentine
and give blood, the Red Cross
says.
