Ex-CIA agent Frank Snepp
must hand over to the govern
ment all profits he made on a 1977
book he wrote without the spy
agency’s approval the Supreme
Court ruled Tuesday by a 6-3
vote.
The prime lending rate was
raised a half percentage point to
a record tying 15% percent
Tuesday by many of the nation’s
leading banks.
Eric Heiden, the 21-year-old
skater from Madison, Wis.,
won his 3rd gold medal at the
Winter Olympics at Lake Placid.
He won the 1,000 meter event.

Little League
Meets Sunday
There will be an organizational
meeting of the Polk County Little
League Sunday at 2 p.m. at the
Tryon Town Hall. Officers,
coaches, managers, etc. are
needed for this season. Anyone
interested in helping with Little
League is invited.
$100 Reward Offered
The Green Creek Volunteer
Fire Department is offering a
$100 reward for the arrest and
conviction of ‘he person or
persons who shot out the windows
and doors of the Green Creek
Fire Department Building last
Friday night.
In addition to the damage done
to the Fire House, the vandals
shot windows out at Cantrell’s
Barber Shop in Green Creek and
at Polk Central High School.
Tryon Teams Win
Advance To
District Semi-Finals
The Tryon girls and boys won
their first round of the State
playoffs Tuesday night at Tryon
and advanced to the District
Semi-Finals. The Tryon girls
defeated Robbinsville 44-40 and
the boys won their 22nd straight
game as they overwhelmed
Hiwassee Dam 93-57.
The Tryon girls trailed 16-14 at
halftime but began hitting better
in the second half. Robin Simpson
tied the game at 16-16 and the
Tryon girls were never behind

Suber Injured
In Wreck
Theodore Suber, 29, of Mill
Spring was seriously injured in a
two vehicle accident Tuesday
about 4:30 p.m. at the junction of
Hwy. 108 and Houston Road.
Patrolman C. T. Kennedy said
that Suber, driving a 1978
Mercury, reportedly pulled out of
Houston Road into the path of an
APC Tanker headed west on
Hwy. . 108. The tanker was
operated by James Moore of
Hendersonville.
Suber was taken to St. Luke’s
Hospital where he was later
transferred to Spartanburg Gen
eral Hospital.
Polk Central Girls
Beat Cullowhee
(advance to semi-finals)
The Polk Central girls defeated
Cullowhee 35-33 Tuesday night at
Cullowhee in the first round of the
State playoffs and advanced to
the semi-finals Thursday at 6:30
p.m. at Tuscola against Hiwassee
Dam.
Kelli Sheehan hit two clutch
free throws in the final seconds to
ice the win. Dina Smith led with
15 points. Sutton led the
Cullowhee team with 16 points.
The Polk Central girls are now
12-9 and Cullowhee closed out its
season with a 15-8 record.
