The Box Office at the Tryon
Fine Arts Center is open for “The
Chalk Garden” on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
It is open from 10 to 12 noon and 2
to 4 p.m.
Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m.

Dean Butler Realty to take
pictures. The photographs of the
children will be published later in
the Bulletin. There is no

For School Board
Charles Pat Feagan
Charles Pat Feagan of Colum
bus has filed for the Polk County
School Board.
Mr. Feagan, age 34, is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Feagan
of Columbus. He is married to the
former Mary Baldwin of Green
Creek. He is a graduate of Polk
Central High School and UNC at
Chapel Hill. A member of
Columbus Baptist Church, Mr.
Feagan teaches a youth Sunday
School class and coaches the
church’s basketball team.
He coached and taught for
three years in the Polk County
School System, first at Green
Creek Elementary and later at
Polk Central. After serving in the
US Army, he worked several
years for The Northwestern Bank
as cashier and branch manager.
He is now self-employed.
Mr. Feagan feels his years as a
teacher and his managerment
experience qualify him for the

Fires
The Tryon Volunteer Fire
Department was called to two
fires Friday night. About 6:38
p.m. they were called to the home
of Ethel Miller at 401 Livingston
Road. The fire had made a great
deal of headway and all rooms
except the two front rooms were
destroyed. Fire Cheif Clarence
Scoggins felt that a faulty flue
was responsible for the fire.
At 9:53 p.m. Saturday they
were called to the Clarence
Rhodes’ Road where a giant
trash pile caught fire.
District Finals
Tonight At Tuscola
The District 8 Class A
basketball finals will be played
tonight at Tuscola High School
near Lake Junaluska. At 6:30
p.m. Edneyville girls will play
Hiwassee Dam and at 8 p.m. the
Tryon boys will play Cullowhee.
The winners of tonights games
will go to the state tournament at
Garner (near Raleigh) next
week.
Home Destroyed
By Fire Sunday
The home of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Hudgins on old No. 19
near Hatch Mill was heavily
damaged by fire Sunday morn
ing. The Columbus Volunteer
Fire Department was called at
11:04 a.m. The fire apparently
started in a back bedroom,
burned up through the closet

Accepts Call To
Tryon 1st Baptist
The Rev. Darryl E. Maxwell
The Rev. Darryl E. Maxwell
has accepted the call of the First
Baptist Church of Tryon to be
their pastor. He will assume his
duties as pastor on Sunday,
March 2.
Since 1970, Dr. Maxwell has
served as pastor of the Berryville
Baptist Church in Berryville,
Virginia. This beautifyl and
historic church is the oldest
continuously active Baptist
Church west of the Blue Ridge
Mountains. His ministry in
Berryville has involved him in all
aspects of community, life. He is
serving a second term on the
Welfare Board, Clarke County
Department of Social Services.
He served as Chaplain of the
Ender Fire Company and Rescue
Squad and the Clarke County
Ruritan Club.
His education includes degrees
from Messiah College in Grant-
