Fiddlers Convention
In Landrum
Landrum, has been chosen as
the location for the “Upper South
Carolina State Fiddlers Conven
tion.”
Landrum is expected to handle
nearly four thousand guests for
its first annual convention March
15th. The entire festival will last
from 12:00 noon until midnight.
Bands using non-electrical string
instruments are invited to attend
by writing Rev. Harold Thomp
son, Route 2, Landrum, S. C.
29356. There will be a contest for
the championship including-
Fiddle, Non-electric Guitar, Bull
base, Banjo, Mandolin, Dobro,
Dulcimer and Honky Tonk Piano.
Over five hundred dollars of
trophies will be awarded to
Resident, Non-resident and Jun
ior Divisions. The convention will
also feature clogging groups,
special entertainment including
the C. G. Dalton Review, from
Salem, S. C.
One of the M.C.’s will be Jolly
George, former President of the
South Carolina Association of
Bluegrass Musicians. Featured
judges will be radio Disc-jockeys
from all over South Carolina.
Bands from over 5 states are
expected to be there and can

the Landrum Band Boosters
Club.
The contest will be held for
instruments only and no bands
will be contested.
Meeting Postponed
The study group of the women
for Constitutional Government
has been postponed until next
Thursday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. in
the Polk County Library. All are
welcome who are interested in
learning more about the constitu
tion and how the one-world
concept is attempting to ignore it.
LANDRUM SUMMER
SOFTBALL LEAGUE
The Landrum Parks and
Recreation Department will
sponsor the softball league at
Palmetto Field this summer. The
softball league will be for both
men’s and women’s teams. The
first organization meeting will be
March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the O.P.

teria in Landrum. All interested
persons need to attend this
meeting.

Lions Collect
Eye Glasses
Want to help someone to see
better? Then how about picking
up that old pair of eye glasses the
next time you are going to be in
Columbus and dropping them off
at Smith’s Super Market. The
Columbus Lions Club is collecting
eye glasses and distributing them
through the North Carolina Lions
Association For The Blind. Rev.
Bill Robfogel said that your help
is needed and appreciated as the
Columbus Club seeks to serve the
visually handicapped of North
Carolina.
Mr. Robfogel said to be sure to
take advantage of the free eye
check-up this week. The Lions
Eye Van will be at Stearns School
on Thursday, February 28, and
Polk Central on March 4 and 5
between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The few moments this eye
check-up takes is an excellant
way to insure continued good
vision according to Mr. Robfogel.

twenty-sixth annual convention
of the Christian Educators
Association of the Southeast held
February 20-22 at the Curtis
Hixon Convention Center in
Tampa, Florida. The theme of
the convention was “Serve the
Lord with Gladness.”
