field goal and Kirkendoll missed
a tap-in at the buzzer, so the score
remained tied 48-48.
After both teams had a turn
over, the Rebels ran the clock
down to 1.28 in the double
overtime when Bruce Butler,
trying to make a steal fouled
Arney who made the front end of
a 1 and 1 to put Cullowhee out
front 49-48. This led up to
Cunningham’s basket for Tryon
and then Cloud’s winning basket
for Cullowhee.
The Cullowhee Rebels were led
by Jeff Cloud their tall center
who had 21 points. Helping him
was Robert Pool who shot 19 and
when left open didn’t miss. The
Tigers didn’t have one of their
better shooting nights from the
floor or from the free throw line.
The ordinarily hot shooting
Tigers hit 21 of 51 from the floor
and 8 of 17 from the free throw
line. The two guards, Butler and
Cunningham led the Tiger
scoring with 14 points each.

Tax Tips
FROM THE IRS
(Political Contributions)
Most of us have received mail
or telephone calls from workers
for a candidate for public office,
asking for contributions to their
campaign. If you responded to
such a request in 1979, you can
claim it on your Federal income
tax return on either the 1040A
short form or 1040 long form.
Until this year, you could elect
to claim political contributions as
either a credit of a deduction, but
that option is no longer available.
For 1979, you must take the
contribution as a credit, but the
amount has been doubled. It is
one-half of the total contribution
to a maximum of $50 for a single
return of $100 on a joint return.
The credit is claimed on line 2a of
the short form 1040A or line 38 on
the long form 1040.
Contributions must in cash and
made to candidates for nomina
tion or election to a Federal, state
or local office in a general,
primary or special election;
committees sponsoring such
candidates; national, state or
local committees of a national
political party; or newsletter
funds of an offical or candidate.
The IRS has a free Publication
No. 585, “Voluntary Tax Methods
to Help Finance Political
Campaigns” which goes into
more detail on how you can claim
your contributions.
And, incidentally, the $1
designated to the Presidential
Campaign Fund is not considered
a political contribution.
