Guerrillas shot their way into
the Dominican Republic Embas
sy in Bogata, Colombia, Wednes
day, seizing Diego C. Asencio of
the U. S. and at least 15 other
ambassadors hostage. They
demanded $50 million, release of
all political prisoners and safe
passage from the country.
George F. Kennan, a Russian
scholar who served as ambassa
dor to the Soviet Union in 1952
told the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee that putting open
pressure on the Soviets to
withdraw from Afghanistan is
only making it difficult for them
to do so.
A unanimous Supreme Court
ruled Wednesday that wives and
husbands cannot block their
spouse from testifying against
them in federal court. Prosecu
tors cannot force spouses to
testify against each other, but left
the question of testifying up to the
potential witness.
The State Department fears
that Cuba may stop jailing
skyjackers unless the U. S.
begins prosecuting refugees who

Basketball Team
The Appalachian Conference
All Conference Basketball teams
have been announced. On the
girls team, Edneyville placed
three; Tryon, Polk Central and
Cherokee ' each had two and
NCSD one member. The champ
ion Tryon boys had an unprecend-
ent five selections on the All-
Conference team. NCSD had two
members and Rosman, Cherokee
and Edneyville, one selection
each. The teams were as follows:

Paul Westbrook of Rt. 1,
Campobello (Green Creek) has a
Black Angus cow that gave birth
to twin calves Monday, Feb. 25th.
Both calves are living and doing
well according to Mr. Westbrook.

Landrum Church
Rev. Donald H. Post, Jr.
A commission of the Calvary
Presbytery will ordain Donald H.
Post, Jr. to the gospel ministry
and install him as pastor of the
Philadelphia Presbyterian
Church of Landrum at 4 p.m. on
March 9. The public is invited to
attend.
The Rev. William Benchoff,
pastor of the Mt. Airy Presbyter
ian Church, Roebuck, S. C., will
serve as chairman of the
ordination committee.
Post, of St. Albans, W. Va.,
earned his Master of Divinity
degree in 1979 from Reformed
Theological Seminary, Jackson,
Miss.
He is married to the former
Connie Burke of Dunbar, W. Va.
They have one son.
The Philadelphia Presbyterian
Church, a member of the
Presbyterian Church in America,
was founded March 17, 1974. It is
located just south of Landrum on
S. C. Rt. 14.

For 10th Reunion
The Tryon High School Class of
’70 is now in the process of
planning their tenth reunion to be
held in June. Would any
members of the class who have

Want Adult Students
The college transfer students of
Isothermal’s Polk Campus are
recruiting students. This small
group wants other adults to join
them in studying the general
education courses that will apply
to a university degree program.
Five or six additional students
will insure sufficient enrollment
to form such a program.
Western Civilization is the first
series of classes planned. The
first class, HIS 101, will be
offered this spring and registra
