Fifty-three (53) percent of all Americans say loss of good farmland is equally serious. By a margin of 7 to 1, Americans feel we should accept federal action to protect farm land from erosion. Americans strongly support the small family farm concept, and think federal policies should help preserve and protect them. (But most people also know that most of their food comes from large farms.) More than 8 of 10 Americans rate themselves “moderate to high” on a conservation ethic scale and believe conservation is important for the country. By more than 2 to 1, Americans say gasohol should receive more federal support then synthetic fuels. Gasohol is seen as more likely than synthetics to reduce oil imports, keep down gasoline costs and less likely to damage the land. Even though their own partici-, pation is rather low (only 33 percent) Americans highly value citizen participation in federal decision making, including the topics mentioned above. They would participate more if they were sure their opinions were truly being heard. A public meeting where concerned citizens can learn of the possible future directions of soil and water conservation programs will be held Tuesday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ramada Inn in Hendersonville. You can voice your opinion there or submit it in written form to your local Soil Conservation Office, P. 0. Box 236, Columbus, N. In North Carolina, ali mony can be applied for by the spouse that is financial ly dependent on the other spouse. However, to obtain alimony the depend ent spouse has to show that the break-up of the marriage was the fault of the other spouse. It is possible for a dependent spouse to be awarded temporary ali mony during the period of separation proceeding the divorce action. Parents are required to assume the financial re sponsibility for rearing their children. If the husband and wife are not able to agree on child support, the judge will make the decision based on evidence submitted to the court. Alimony and child sup port can be negotiated and agreed upon even before filing the divorce action, or a separate lawsuit can be brought to settle these issues. gimiiiiiiiiii mill 1 Pajamas by Host (for the tall guy) I ALSO I f House Slippers by Daniel Green (all leather) | JOHN’S | MEN’S SHOP | “Clothes of Distinction” = 19 Mill St , Inman, S.
