Panamanian leftists proclaim ing sympathy with dissidents in El Salvador seized the Salvado ran Embassy in Panama City for two hours Thursday and held six persons hostage then left peace fully and freed them. Leftist guerrilas who are occupying the Dominican Republic’s embassy in Bogata, Colombia freed 14 hostages Thursday, including one child, 10 women and 3 wounded men. Among the approximately 50 hostages remaining last Friday was U. S. Ambassador Diego C. Acensio. Miss Mary Roff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Roff of Tryon, is to be congratulated on winning a Morehead Award at UNC at Chapel Hill. Mary, a senior at Tryon High School, has had an outstanding academic and athletic record as well as participating in many school and community activities. Burrell has been selected to be a Finalist in the 9th Annual Miss Carolina National Teen-ager Pageant to be held at the Holiday Inn City Center, Columbia, June 20, 21 and 22. The Miss S. C. National Teen-ager Pageant is the Official State Finals to the nationally televised Miss Nation al Teen-Ager Pageant to be held in Atlanta in August. Allison Grisso of Columbia is the reigning Miss S. C. National Teen-ager and will crown the new queen. There will be contestants from all over the state competing in the Pageant. Prizes to be awarded include a $500 Cash Scholarship, a tuition scholarship to Barbizon International, and an all-expense paid trip to the Nationally Televised Miss National Teen-ager Pageant. $20,000.00 in Cash Scholarships will be awarded at the National Continued On Back Page Meets Tonight The Health Fair Committee is meeting tonight at 7:30 at the Agricultural Extension Meeting Room in Columbus. Mary Roff Wins Morehead Award Mary Roff CHAPEL HILL — Mary Erwin Roff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Roff of Tryon, has received a Morehead Award to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The announcement is made today by Hugh G. Chatham of Elkin, N. C., chairman of the board of trustees of the John Motley Morehead Foundation. A senior at Tryon High School, she is editor of the yearbook, a member of the varsity tennis and track teams and a national merit semi-finalist. Roff is one of 65 high school seniors who have received a 1980 Morehead Award, which is presented to students of superior achievement and potential.
