The big news Friday was that the Moslem militants in the U. S. Embassy in Tehran, who have held some 50 Americans hostage for four months said that they were ready to give up their captives to Iran’s Revolutionary Council. Gerald R. Ford inches closer to entering the presidential race as a national draft-Ford committee was formed to encourage him to make the jump. Skyrocketing interest rates have pushed up the average cost of a monthly mortgage for a new home, and no short term relief is in sight. ^Tonight the Tryon Central Business Committee meets at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall; at 7:30 the Tryon Town Council meets at 7':30 in the Town Hall; at 7:30 the Columbus Town Council meets at the Columbus Town Hall; at 7:30 p.m. the Tryon School Board meets in the superintendent’s office at the high school; at 8 p.m. the Polk County School Board meets in the Supt.’s office in the courthouse annex. Rogers former ly of Cheapeake City, Md. has moved to her home in Cooper’s Gap, She bought 50 acres and a cabin in World Edge Estates through the Walker Agency. Mrs. Rogers is a native of British Columbia, Canada. She is a veterinarian and practices under her maiden name, Dr. Cherry Hooper. Mrs. Rogers has a son, Patrick Cornyn, who is a student at the University of Delaware where he is studying agriculture and a daughter, Miss Jillian Cornyn, who is in pre-veterinary at N. C. State University in Raleigh. Mrs. Rogers enjoys riding and hunting and has three horses at her place here. Drug Abuse At Tryon Lions Club The Tryon Lions Club will meet Tuesdav at 7 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The club members will discuss the problems of drug abuse as it applies to Polk County. On hand to lead the discussion and to outline some aspects, of the problems will be Joel Dobblins of the Polk County Mental Health Program. Ellis Fincher is in charge of the program. Jim Rutledge The Men’s Club of the Tryon United Methodist Church is sponsoring two seminars on effective communications with Jim Rutledge as instructor. Each seminar will be the same in content — one on Wed., March 19th from 7 to 10 p.m. and the other on Sat., March 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Both will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall.
