Vining, who was named Girls Basketball Coach of the Year last year in Georgia has been named to coach the northern Georgia Girls All Star team this summer in Atlanta. They will play the southern Georgia Girls All Star team. Town News The Tryon Town Council met Monday night at the Town Hall. Mayor Ken Tucker presented certificates to the Tryon High School boys and girls basketball teams, coaches and staff mem bers for their outstanding season this past year. As part of the county-wide spring clean-up, Mayor Tucker declared March 24 — 29 as Clean-up Week in Tryon. In terested citizens or community groups who wish to help may contact the Town Office. The Board set Monday, May 12 at 10 a.m. for sale of 1979 Tax Lien for deliquent and unpaid property taxes. The Board set Monday, March 17th at 7:30 p.m. for special public hearing for Margo’s Family Restaurant which wants to install various game machines at the restaurant. This was not within the original ABC Permit Request. Assistant District At torney Alan Leonard will be present at the meeting and residents of the neighborhood are invited to attend. The Board set Monday, March 24th at 7 p.m. as a special meeting to continue the review of the new town ordinances with the Town Attorney. The Board adopted the state rule of the 20 day extended sick leave policy for teachers. “When earned sick leave is exhausted teachers must request extended sick leave not to exceed 20 days after which time the teacher goes on leave without pay and a certified teacher must be hired as a replacement pursuant to a State Board change on Feb. 11th. Mrs. Ruth Ross gave a detailed report on the Alternative School program. The Board approved the amendment to the State Testing Rules. Plans were made for attending the District School Board meeting on March 19th in Hendersonville. The budget requests from the individual schools were present ed for the Board’s consideration. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. J. T. (Jack) Arledge of Carolina Drive. A native of Tryon, Miss Wilson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. G. (Linda Arledge) Wilson of Waynesboro, Virginia. She is a 1978 graduate of Bryn Mawr College with a B.A. degree in cultural anthropology. In Cincinnati, Miss Wilson was employed as a Field Director with Great Rivers Girl Scout Council. Her hobbies include drawing, painting, quiltmaking, classical and folk music. The Bulletin 10c Per Copy Win Trip To Tryon Miriam Zimmerman and Brad Hoffman won a weekend in Tryon at Melrose Lodge by winning a dance marathon for Muscular Dystrophy last November. Stu dents at George Washington University, W’ashington, D. C. they were allowed to wait until spring break to take the trip. Miss Zimmerman, a freshman, is from Columbus, Ga. Mr. Hoffman, a junior, is from Philadelphia, Pa. To win the trip they danced for 24 hours and raised the most money. They arrived in Tryon on Saturday evening and left Tuesday afternoon. They had no idea what Tryon would be like and said that they enjoyed the scenery and the people that they had met. They said the peace and quiet was a nice change from Washington. Theatre Lives At Rotary The vigorous survival of live theatre in spite of extensive competition from technological developments that have produc ed movies, TV programming, radio dramas, etc., will be discussed with Rotarians assem bling at the Pacolet River Plantation at 12:45 Friday for a luncheon meeting. The speaker will be Rotarian Stephen Fitch who has had broad experience on Broadway as leading man in ten musicals under his stage name, Stephen Douglass. He promises to enliven his discussion with reports on his leading ladies including Ginger Rogers, Gwen Verdon, Gretchen Wyler and Nanette Fabray. His all time favorite leading lady with whom he has shared his longest run is his wife Christine after whom their Landrum Florist Shop, The Fair Lady, is named.
