Pairs of riders will move off at three-minute intervals to negotiate a marked course beginning and ending at the Williams’ farm. The event tests the ability of riders and their mounts to match the time approved for the course by the Hunt staff but not revealed to the competitors until all have completed the ride and recorded their time. The approved time represents the correct pace for following a pack of hounds in pursuit of a fox, and the winning team is that which comes closest to it. “Vestavia” is across Little Mountain Road from the Tryon Hounds kennels, midway be tween Little Mountain Road’s intersections with Peniel Road and Highway 14. Entrances will be marked. When the Tryon Hounds was established in 1926, most of its sport was drag hunting in the “old Hunting Country” adjacent to Ridge Road. Through the years, more country has been opened up with the cooperation of landowners in the vicinity of Peniel Road, Green Creek, River Road, and Little Mountain, and there has been hunting at Fairview Farm just across the state line in South Carolina. For many years all hunting has been foxes (not drag hunting). In 1935, the Hunt received recognition from the Masters of Foxhounds of America. — Reporter Black and white angora looking cat with flea cat. FOUND near Howard Gap Road, Tryon.
