uprising Monday in El Salvador.
The price of gold dropped to
$470 an ounce, and silver to $17.40

The annual Kiwanis Pancake
Supper is today from 5 to 8 p.m.
at the Tryon Elementary School
cafeteria.
The Biair String Quartet will
be at the Fine Arts Center at 8
o’clock.
The Republican Precincts meet
at various times today. Check

your precinct time and place.
Voter registration books in
Polk County close April 8th at 5
p.m. to prepare for the May 6th
primary. If you need to register
or change your registration, it
must be done by this date in order
to vote in the primary election
and the Polk County School
Board Election.

County are sponsoring a Rally at.

“Let’s Clown Around”
The 0. P. Earle Elementary
School PTA in Landrum will be
having their Spring Festival
Saturday, March 22 from 10 a.m.
through 3 p.m. The theme this
year is "Let’s Clown Around.”
All activities will be held inside
the school.
Lunch will be served from 11-1.
Among a few of the activities will
be clown face painting, white
elephant, paint an egg, bingo,
craft shop. etc. Any child who
draws a picture of a clown will be
given a free ticket for one of the
games.
Each year the PTA at 0. P.
Earle works to raise money for
equipment and improvements of
the school. The Spring Festival is
the biggest event. A spokesman
said that there will be fun and
games for people of all ages.
Republican
Precinct
Meetings Thurs.
Republican precinct meetings
will be held Thursday, March 20
throughout the county to elect
delegates to the county conven
tion on March 29 in the Court
House, Columbus.
Locations of the meetings are:

Gets Scholarship
Cynthia Ann Arrowood
GAFFNEY, S. C. — A Polk
Central High School student,
Cynthia Ann Arrowood, has been
awarded a $2,000.00 Fine Arts
Scholarship in the field of Music
at Limestone College in Gaffney.
Cindy, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Doyle Arrowood of
Route 1, Campobello, South
Carolina. She will enter-
Limestone College as a freshman
dormitory student in the fall.
Miss Arrowood will graduate
from Polk Central High School in
the summer. She was elected on
the basis of academic achieve
ment and music interest by a
committee during a recent
scholarship interview at Lime
stone.
The scholarship will be
credited at the rate of $500.00 per
year for four consecutive years at
Limestone.

Kelly Returns
From Japan;
Baker In Thailand
Miss Shawn Kelly has returned
from Japan. She is one of the first
Polk County students to go
abroad under the AFS program.
Her Japanese host father who is a
doctor, has started a building for
a clinic and when it is completed,
he and his family will visit Shawn
and her family.
At present, Shawn is auditing
some courses at Polk Central
prior to entering East Carolina in
the fall.
Miss Sharon Baker, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilkins of
Hickory Grove has just arrived in
Thailand. Prior to her arrival,
she was in San Francisco for two
days orientation and is now
attending language training
school in Bangkok before joining
her large family in Ro-et in the
northeastern part of Thailand.

Temple in Campobello, S. C.
Bishop A. C. Jackson of
