Tryon Daily Bulletin, Wed., Mar. 19, 1980
Communication
To The Taxpayers
Of The City Of Landrum
and especially the over 400
signatures who had the intelli
gence and forsight to put their
names on the dotted line to
demand an Ordinance for the
control of the dog population,
which we all know has gotten out
of hand. Recently a lady has been
bitten by a dog. This is a serious
matter. Complaints of dog
harassment have been rudely
ignored in the past. A crucial
meeting on this matter will take
place on Saturday, March 22nd at
10:00 A.M. at City Hall. We shall
find how progressive our City
Government really is. All those
who want to stop this backwoods
tradition to allow dogs to run
loose, to manure your front
lawns, porches and yards,
destroy your shubbery and
gardens, harass your children
and pets, attack adults and
livestock, bark at all hours and
keep you awake, spread disease
to other animals and humans,
please attend this meeting and
assert yourselves in no uncertain
terms. In my past attempts to
convince Council that my
proposals are realistic, that it
will separate the wanted cared
for pets from the unwanted stray
dogs, produced no encouraging
results. My proposals were either
only glanced over, misunder
stood. blown out of context,
ridiculed, soft peddled and no
intelligent counter proposal
made.
At the last Council meeting,
Jack Nodine committed a serious
blunder by insulting the public
with the outrageous remark, “If
you don’t like dogs running loose
move out of town."
It is urged that all interested
citizens of Landrum be present at
the Satuday, March 22nd meet
ing.

The Hawaiian Islands grew
from a chain of volcanoes. Oahu
is the oldest of the islands, and
none of its volcanoes is active.
Diamond Head, the dramatic
landmark that towers over
Waikiki Beach, is a wall of the
huge crater of one such extinct
volcano, says National Geo
