Featured
The Sperry arid Hutchinson
magazine, “60 Days" has a
feature article on Edith Jackson
(Mrs. Carver C.) of Greenville, S.
C. The article is accompanied by
a picture of Mrs. Jackson who
was shown at work in her office.
In 1968, Bigelow hired Edith
Jackson as a clerk in the
personnel department of the
company’s Landrum, S. C.,
woven carpet plant, and while
she now holds the distinction of
being the first black female ever
promoted to a management
position at Bigelow, she defies the
label of token.
“Bigelow promoted me on my
track record and my ability to
perform whatever duty I was
assigned — not because I'm black
and female.*’ declares Edith,
currently employee benefits
supervisor-insurance admini
strator. “My plan from the
beginning was to rise to a higher
position within the company,"
she says. “Whenever a challenge
arose, I met it as best I could."
Vice president, administration,
Goetz B. Eaton, concurs:
“Edith’s desire to learn new
areas of responsibility is the
main reason she has progressed
so rapidly with Bigelow."
Mrs. Jackson is the daughter of
Mrs. Eunice Powell of Tryon and
is a graduate of Embury High
School.
