It. num. nroM,iLG Zaire — the former Belgian Congo — he led the people of Ntondo to build a high school. Using simple tools, meager local funds,a nd monies sent by friends from Washington State, they constructed a school for over 600 students. The program attracted students from a wide area and dormitories were built to accom modate those coming from long distances. Six junior high schools were also opened, all with local effort and no government funding. For his work in education, Mompongo was appointed Com missioner of Education for the Equator Region, one of the eight districts of Zaire. The Equator Region is about the size of Kansas and has a population of some three million people. Currently Mompongo is teaching science at the Ntondo high school in addition to directing the Habitat building project. He speaks six langu ages fluently, serves in his local Baptist church as organist, and is also a lay pastor in the Baptist Church of his area. Despite higher interest rates, farm loan funds are expected to be generally adequate this year in Ihe U. S., according to Sperry New Holland. The Fertilizer Institute pre diets U. S. farmers will use a record 53 million tons of fertilizers this year. Pork demand has surpassed most expectations. Only six percent more pork was stored last fall, with slaughter running one-third ahead of a year earlier. WILL DO SEWING By Appointment Only Call Margaret Durham 894-8785 adv. 19, 26, apr. 2, pd.
