visiting Mr. Vining’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Seth M. Vining, Jr. of

Indiana and Mr. and Mrs.
Richard B. Philbrick (Ruth
Rowe) of Washington, D. C. Their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C.
Rowe made their home at the
corner of Grady Avenue and
Markham Road in the 1930s and
1940s.
Mr. and Mrs Stan Thomas
(Janice Mills) of Myrtle Beach,
S. C. spent the weekend with Mrs.
Thomas’ mother, Mrs. Norma
Mills in Tryon.
Mrs. Pat Martin and daughter,
Miss Susan, have returned to
Nashville, Tenn, after visiting
Mrs. Martin’s mother, Mrs.
Charles Reakirt on Skyuka Road.

The Block House Feature Race
— $10,000 hurdle race for
four-year-olds and upward and
covering two miles was the Sth
event. Popular Hero was first,
followed by Noble Deception and
Red Brick House.
The final race was The Pine
Crest — $1,000 flat race for
three-year-olds and upward over
1 mile. Ruysch, with Gregg
Morris up, was running in the
back of the field, pulled even with
Syl Va Lane and shot into second
place barely 50 yards from the
finish and then put on a
tremendous burst of speed to
overtake French Chef right at the
finish line.
