The "Last Hurrah for Great
Oak Hall Tea Dance", last
October, won first place in the
"Special Events" category of the
national Clara Barton Communi
cations Contest, as announced
from Washington, D. C.
The Red Cross benefit saluted
the passing of an historic
landmark, brought back "Scot
tie", daughter of famed author F.
Scott Fitzgerald, and generated
broad community interest in the
objectives of Red Cross pro
grams.
First use of the $1636 net
proceeds was a $500 donation to
the special "National Quota
Disaster Campaign." Key people
responsible for the dance success
were: Marc Parsons, James
Kirk, Eleanor Stetekluh, Richard
Weiss and executive secretary,
Shirley Arledge. Dozens of
community-spirited individuals
also helped stage the event.
Additional honors garnered by

The Polk County Democratic
Convention was held Saturday at
the Polk County Courthouse with
2nd Vice Chairman presiding.
The following committees were
elected:
Congressional District-
Executive Committee: Judy
Arledge, Walden Thompson.
Judicial District Executive
Committee: Boyce Carswell and
Thurston Arledge.
State Senatorial Executive
Committee: Harold Burrell and
John Rhodes.
House of Representatives
Executive Committee: Charles
