Miss Nancy Alice Bishop of
Landrum, S. C. became the bride
of Robert Wesley Young Jr. of
Columbia in a 4 p.m. Saturday
wedding at First Baptist Church.
The couple is on a trip to Lake
Buena Vista, Fla. They will make
their home at 500 Zimalcrest
Drive, Crossroads Apartments,
Columbia.

Mrs. Young teaches at Honey
Tree Child Development Center
in Campobello. A graduate of
Landrum High School, she
attended University of South
Carolina at Spartanburg and
received a B.A. degree in early
childhood education from Uni
versity of South Carolina where
she also attended graduate
school
Miss Glenda Tucker attended
as maid of honor. The bride's
aunt, Mrs. Bill Griffin of
Charlotte served as a bridesmaid
with Miss Susan Raines of
Greenville, Miss Nancy Inman of
Asheville and the bridegroom’s
sisters, Kim and Kelly of
Spartanburg. Tina Turner was
junior attendant.
Mr. Young’s parents live at 766
Kenmore Drive, Spartanburg. A
graduate of Spartanburg High
School, he attended University of
South Carolina at Spartanburg
and received a B.S. degree in
business administration and
marketing from USC. He is a
sales representative with Echlin
Manufacturing Company, Bran
ford, Conn.
The bridegroom had his father
as best man. The bride's brother,
Bob, of Central ushered with Chip
Rivers and Mark Edwards, both
of Spartanburg, Robert Kings-
more of Charlotte, Tim Gentry’ of
Blowing Rock, N. C. and Bob
Lowe.
The Rev. C. W. Farrar and the
bride’s cousin, the Rev. Malcolm
Bennett Bishop III, of Braden

Tom Byars
Tom Byars, 75, husband of Ila
Byars Byars, 224 Ward St.,
Tryon, died Tuesday morning in
St. Luke’s Hospital.
He was born in Polk County and
was a son of the late John W. and
Elizabeth Waldrop Byars. He
was a member of Grace Baptist
Church in Landrum and was a
retired farmer.
Surviving beside his wife are
two sons, Pete of Green Creek
and Robert Byars of Columbus;
six daughters, Miss Barbara
Byars of Whitney, S. C., Mrs.
Edith Henderson of Inman, S. C.,
Mrs. Katherine Constance of
Landrum, S. C., Miss Virl Byars
of Tryon, Mrs. Sarah Brooks of
Landrum, S. C., Mrs. Frances
Moody of Mauldin, S. C.; five
sisters, Mrs. Sallie Davis, Mrs.
Maggie Pace, Mrs. Eva Byars
all of Mill Spring, Mrs. Catherine
Cantrell of Columbus, Rt. 1, and
Mrs. Julia Edwards of Colum
bus; Also 15 grandchildren and 2
great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at
2:00 Thursday in Byars Baptist
Church with Rev. David W.
Brooks officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Charles,
Walter, Tommy, Gene and Alvin
Owen and Johnny Byars.
Family will receive freiends
from 7 — 9 p.m. tonight
(Wednesday) at McFarland
Funeral Chapel. Body will be
placed in the church at 1:30
Thursday.

Class of ’43 Reunion
There will be a Class Reunion
for the Class of 1943, Sunny View
School, on May 31st at 2:00 p.m.
at the Sunny View Community
House. All Sunny View alumni

Waymon Summey
Waymon Franklin Summey, 63,
of Route 3, Travelers Rest, S. C.,
White Horse Extension, husband
of Annie Belle Lindsey Summey,
died Friday.
Born in Polk County, N. C., a
son of the late George and Rosa
Metcalf Summey, he was a
member of North Fork Baptist
Church and was an employee of
Kerr-Renfrew Bleachery. He was
a World War II veteran.
Surviving also are a daughter,
Betty Buchanan of Travelers
Rest; sisters, Inez Pace and
Hazel Lee Belcher of Saluda, N
C., and Hattie Belcher of
Hendersonville; half-brothers.
Leland and Bud Morgan of
Saluda, N.C. and Jessie Morgan
of Travelers Rest; stepbrothers,
Lonnie and Eugene Morgan of
Tryon; half-sisters, Donnie Pace
of Saluda, N. C., Margie Bell of
Tryon, Ethel Rhodes of Charlotte
and Irene Bell of East Flat Rock,
N. C.; and one grandchild.
Services were held at 2 p.m
Monday at North Fork Baptist
Church; burial was in the church
cemetery.

AT HOLY CROSS
The choir of the Episcopal
Church of the Holy Cross will
present "Requiem” by Gabriel
Faure' at a service of Evening
Prayer on Sunday afternoon,
April 27 at five o’clock. Soloists
will be Mary Ann Claud, soprano
and William Sereque, bass. Also
to be heard are settings of
Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by
Thomas Morley and an anthem
by John Joubert. The public is
invited.
