Polk Commissioners Make Appointments At the Polk County Commis sioners’ meeting on 21 April, 1980, Manager Marvin Wagner announced that $85,000, including $12,000 local money, is available for Emergency Medical Service equipment which will give EMS the capability to transmit EKG signals over air to St. Luke’s Hospital, and eventually to tie in with the state-wide system. NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC COLIFORM BACTERIA FOUND IN DRINKING WATER During March coliform bacteria was found in drinking water samples from the Melmont Water Co. above the limit as it appears in the “Rules Governing Public Water Supplies.” Coliform bacteria is normally found in the intestinal tract of man or other warm blooded animals and can be easily found in drinking water samples. The presence of coliform bacteria indicates that some contamina tion has occured. In an attempt to correct the cause or the contamination we have done the following: we have disinlected the water system. We have flushed the water lines. The mutual aid law enforcement assistance resolution with Hend erson County was passed. Federal funding for the Law Enforcement Assistance Admin istration has been cut. The Board decided not to fund $1945 for Polk’s share to keep the office open. — League of Women Voters Observer Dies At 102 James Ira Christian, 102, 1919 Meldo Aye., Jacksonville, Fla. died Monday night in a Tryon Rest Home. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. and was a son of the late Zera Sims and Mary Cates Christian. He moved to Tryon from Jacksonville. Fla. one year ago. Surviving are two daughters. Mrs. Robert H. Elarbee of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. William W. Clark of Tryon, N. C.; also three grandsons and three great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.
