Men’s Garden Club meeting
scheduled for Thursday has been
cancelled.
The baseball game between
Tryon and Andrews Tuesday
afternoon was rained out and is
re-scheduled for today at 4 p m.
at Harmon Field.
Thursday is the Strawberry
Festival at the Tryon Presby
terian Church.
Thurs., Fri. and Sat. at 8:15 and
Sunday at 2:15 is "An Evening
With Cole Porter" al the Tryon
Fine Arts Center.
The 52nd annual Tryon Horse
Show is Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at Harmon Field.
Friday from 6 to 8 pm. is a
Fried Chicken Supper at Sunny
View School.

Plains, has returned home after
attending the wedding of her
niece. Elizabeth Rickborn. Satur
day afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
Also accompanying her was her
daughter and son-in-law , Mr and
Mrs. Jim Martin of Lake Sandy
Plains.

The Polk County Jaycee
Antique Car Show which was
rained out this past weekend has
been re-scheduled for Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Ulmer
have moved to Landrum from
Middletown, New Jersey.
Mrs. Ulmer, the former Mary
Carter, is a native of Sioux Falls,
S. D. She worked for a
veterinarian as a secretary-book-
keeper in New Jersey, and in her
spare time, she enjoys sewing,
reading and gardening.
Mr. Ulmer, a native of New
Jersey, has retired after being a
civilian employee at Ft. Mon
mouth, N. J He was active in the
masons in New Jersey, and some
of his hobbies are radios and
model trains.
They have two sons. Kenneth of
Eatontown. N. J and John of
Minneapolis. Minn, and two
granddaughters.
They are Presbyterians.
Japanese Coming
Mitchy Akiyoshi and wife
Yoshimi and two teenage
daughters. Temi and Mina are
expected in Tryon Friday, May
23rd to visit the Ernest Burwells
at Red Fox
They have been for years a part
of the K E E P organization at
Kiyosata, Japan with Paul
Rusch of which Ernest Burwell
has been a director for twenty
years.
Mr Akiyoshi is now a student
at the General Seminary in N. Y
to become an Episcopal Minister
in Japan
They are also friends of Mrs.
John Darnall who has sponsored
a part of his studies
Taxes At Rotary
Rotarians gathering at the
Pacolet River Plantation at 12:45
Friday will hear about North
Carolina Taxes.
J. L. Franquemont, tax
specialist of the North Carolina
Department of Revenue, will
describe the numerous taxes
levied by the State. He will also
total the funds raised by the taxes
and reveal how the funds are
spent. The unique North Carolina
Intangibles Tax" will be "cover
ed in detail."
Ed Delehanty is in charge of
the program.
