The Columbus Baptist Church
is having a Bazzar Saturday
beginning at 9 a m . at the church.
The proceeds from the Bazaar
will go toward repairing the fire
damage that was done to their
Education Building several
months ago. There will be
handmade crafts, bake sale,
rummage sale, homemade ice
cream, house plants, bird houses,
macrame, etc. Quilts and
Afghans will be auctioned at 2
p.m An opportunity to help the
church and help ourselves at the
same time.
Grand Island. Nebraska was
hit by a number of tornadoes
during a three-hour period
Tuesday. The confirmed dead
was placed at three, but no one
knows what is under the wreck
age of more than 250 homes and
businesses.
The 1980 General Assembly

New Chef At
Pacolet River
Plantation
The Pacolet River Plantation
on Hwy 176 in Pacolet Valley has
opened agin after extensive
renovation. The new chef is
Ralph Capps, a native of
Hendersonville. Mr. Capps was
trained at Cornell University and
had 11 years active duty in the
Army in Food Service. He is a
Major in the Army Reserves.
Mr. Capps was a dietitian at
Brooks General Hospital, an
Executive Chef in the Hilton
Hotel, Inc.; was a chef in the
Heather Hills Country Club in
Indianapolis, Indiana; Highland
Falls Country Club and the
Asheville Downtown City Club.
Mrs. Capps (Shirley) is also a
native of Hendersonville. She
comes to the Pacolet River
Plantation from the Etowah
Country Club.
Mr. Capps said that they will
feature gourmet meals with
special seasonal items, plus
homemade soups and desserts.
He said that they would be glad to
help plan your parties, banquets
and other special occasions. An
added attraction is a screened-in
porch overlooking the Pacolet
River.

Shelton Rhodes of Deep Run, N.
C. (in Lenoir County) has been
assigned to the Polk County
ASCS Office as part of his
training to become a County
Executive Director. He will be
training in all phases of ASCS
work

Retires
Mrs. Frances J. Pittman
Mrs Frances J. Pittman who is
retiring from teaching this year
after 33 years in the classroom,
was honored Tuesday at Mill
Spring School with a special
luncheon in her honor. She was
presented a gold locket by the
Mill Spring faculty and staff and
her 30 year pin. Supt. David A.
Cromer said that in her 33 years
of teaching in Polk County she
had missed five days of school
and one PTA meeting
The former Frances Jackson,
she was reared in the Sunny View
Community. She is a graduate of
Sunny View High School, and
received her B A. and M.A.
degrees from Appalachian State
University. She taught one year
at Sunny View and 32 at the Mill
Spring School. The third grade
teacher was honored Tuesday by
the children of the school who
planted a red dogwood in
recognition of her 32 years at the
