K-12. entitled "Special Education Rules and Regulations ’, on Tuesday and Wednesday. June 3rd and 4th II was conducted by Miss Julie Long. Professor of Education. Mars Hill College. Craft Exhibits At Arts Center Two wall cases containing varying examples of enamel work and wood carving done by members of Tryon Crafts are presently on exhibit for the month of June in the craft working area on the bottom floor of The Tryon Fine Arts Center The enamel pieces have all been done in the classes conducted by Marjorie Lockwood and represent several techni ques Several pieces have been fashioned by the cloisonne process, in which silver wire outlining the design is affixed to a copper base and powdered enamel in varous colors is then applied to fill in the wire-bounded areas. The piece is then fired in a small kiln at 1500 degrees F Other processes represented in the exhibit are pieces of painted enamel, in which the enamel is applied to a slightly concave copper surface and fired; two pieces of silver jewelry with the colors applied by a so-called wet-pack inlay, and a lovely dish in which the colored pattern is produced with a special tool by a "swirl” process. The cabinet exhibiting samples of the wood carving class contains several finely detailed, leprechaun-like figures in bass wood, a large eagle in walnut and a number of life-like animal figures — a polar bear, a bear gripping in his teeth a large fish, a bear cub and. among birds, a house wren, a swan, a great blue Continued On Back Page Buy Home Here Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pierce, and their son, Carl, moved recently to Tryon from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The Pierces purchased the Jack Allen home on Hogback Road. The sale was made through Gaut-Pruette Associates and Town & Country Realty. Mr Pierce was an Electrical Contractor in the Metropolitan Detroit area. He attended Cranbrook Prep School, the University of Tennessee, and was in the Navy prior to beginning his Electrical Apprecticeship. He helped form Little League in the Birmingham area, and was acitve in Civic affairs, serving on the Board of Appeals for the City of Birmingham, and the Tax Review and the Electrical Board for Bloomfield Hills, and was a member of the Builders Ex change of Detroit. His wife, Carolyn, attended Ohio Wesleyan, where she was a Kappa. Mrs. Pierce helped form the Birmingham chapter of M A C L .D , was a member of the Women’s Association for the ™- rOit r S y m Ph°ny, and an Officer for the Bloomfield Hills branch of the Women’s National Farm & Garden Association She also was active in civic affiars and worked on the Board of Elections.
