years, died Thursday. He was 75.
The U. S. Senate voted
Thursday to require an estimated
4 million young men to sign their
names in the first peacetime
draft registration program since
1975. The House had already
passed the measure.
Congress Thursday finally
approved a $613.6 billion 1981
budget and projects a $200 million
surplus. (Most of us doubt this
will happen).
The Polk County Historical
Association Museum at the Depot
in Tryon is open on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings from 10 to 12
noon.
Tonight at 7 the City Council of
Saulda will hold a public hearing
at the City Hall on the proposed
budget.
The Tryon Town Council will
hold a budget workshop session
at 7 tonight in the Town Hall and
again on Wednesday at 4.

The Polk County Commis
sioners are scheduled to meet
tonight at 7 p.m. at the Tryon
Town Hall.

Birds flew high in perfect
weather for the Member-Guest
tournament Thursday. Low gross
honors went to Jo Hoskyns and
Margaret Hannon. Second were
Dee Griffith and Helen Diel.
Low net was carded by Vivian
Wright and Hazel Elliott. Gina
Petura and Fran Cannady were
second, with Pat Pettit and Mary
Cummings in third place,
followed by Sally Peterson and
Nancy Steuerwald.

Green Creek
Celebration
Saturday, June 21
The Green Creek Fire Depart
ment celebration, sponsored by
the Ladies Auxiliary will get
underway Saturday at 12 noon.
There will be a dunking machine
with guys and gals from all over
the county volunteering to be
“dunkees.” There will be Gospel,
folk, country, and blue grass
music.
That evening the crowning of
the “Little Miss” and “Miss”
Green Creek Fire Department”
will take place. One of the Green
Creek Firemen will be presented
the Fireman of the Year Award.
Tapping off the evening will be
the first performance of the
Green Creek Fire Department
^loggers along with square
dancing and clogging for all
Music will be provided by Barry
Jackson and the Country Stran
gers The public should bring
their lawn chairs and spend the
