The Polk County Jaycee Tennis
Tournament for those 18 and
under was played Saturday and
Sunday at Harmon Field.
Susanne Engels won the girls
singles by defeating Julie Staggs
6-1, 6-3. David Vining took the 18
and under title for the third
straight year beating Andy
Bayard 6-1, 6-0 In doubles play,
Bryan Corpening and Andy
Bayard beat David Vining and
Davey Edwards 6-4, 7-6. In Mixed
doubles Susanne Engles and
Andy Bayard defeated Julie
Staggs and Eric McClure 6-0. 6-2.
The Polk County Jaycees were
assisted in the direction of the

Kiwanis Club according to

$2,264 To St. Luke’s
The Duke Endowment trustees
reported that as of Dec. 31st
$504,943,048 has been appropriat
ed during the Endowment's 55-
year life. In 1979 a record $30.35
million was appropriated for
health care, higher education,
residentai child care and religi
ous purposes. During 1979 St.
Luke's Hospital received $2,264.
Homecoming Sunday

Cecil Turner Shoots
Hole-In-One
Tryon Country Club Profes
sional Cecil Turner shot his 4th
hole-in-one last Wednesday af
ternoon when he hit an 8-iron on
the fly into the par 3, 155-yard
ninth hole He was playing with
his assistant, Kenny Morgan, and
had a 66 on the round Mr Turner
had made two holes-in-one
previously on the 210 14th hole
and one on the ninth.
This was the second hole-in-one
made at the Tryon Country Club
this year.

Ralph C. Charbeneau of
Williamsburg. Virginia, will be
the speaker Sunday afternoon at
3:30 at the Fine Arts Center. His
lecture is entitled,"The Healing
Power of God in Business." The
lecture is sponsored by the
Christian Science church in
Tryon.
Mr Charbeneau is a member
of the Christian Science Board of
Lectureship. He was formerly
president of a national
corporation engaged in research
and education. His business
responsibilities involved travel to
40 countries. He has served as a
department manager at the
Christian Science Center, Boston
and he is an active Christian
Science practitioner. He has
authored articles for periodicals
of the Christian Science Publish
ing Society and has served as
fo ^ radio Programs of
The Mother Church.
