Calling For
Blood Donors
Red Cross once again is calling
for blood donors when the
Bloodmobile comes to the Tryon
area next Monday, June 23rd.
The Bloodmobile will be at the
Episcopal Church Parish Hall in
Tryon from 12:30 p.m. to 5 30 on
Monday. Once again, the Red
Cross must stress the theme:
"What if you needed blood and
there wasn’t any’" The problem
is critical since so far this year
blood donations have fallen below
the requirements for doctors and
St. Luke’s Hospital patients, the
Red Cross says.
But giving blood is so simple,
the Red Cross emphasizes.
"Anyone who is more than 17
years old. weighs more than 110
pounds and is in good health can
donate blood," Red Cross
chairman Richard E. Weiss says.
"The process is easy. An
individual has only to come to the
Parish Hall at his or her
convenience on Monday after
noon where he or she will be
examined by a qualified nurse
who will record blood pressure,
pulse and medical history. After
that it takes but six to eight
minutes to transfer a pint of blood
to the blood bank.
"And the satisfaction of having
done this is so great," Weiss says.
"Imagine, knowing that you may
have helped restore to health or
even saved the life of a friend or
someone else in our communi
ties!"
