The official weather report for
Thursday was: high 99, low 67.
The weather man from Colum
bia. S. C. was in Tryon Thursday
and checked the official thermo
meter at Robert Dedmont’s and
found it to be accurate. 99 is high.
Friday was cooler, but still
warm. Temperatures are setting
records in many areas.
Two local boys are being sent to
basketball camp at Clemson and
some money is needed to help
with the expenses. If you would

The Polk County Museum at
the Depot in Tryon is open from
10 to 12 noon on Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
For those who enjoy watching
Little League baseball, the
district playoffs will be held at
Harmon Field this week, begin
ning today. The double-elimina
tion tournament opens at 4 p.m.
between Forest City and Ruther
fordton; followed at 6 p.m. by
Polk County and Harris-Shiloh.
The Green Creek All-Stars
received a first round bye and
will play Tuesday. A team must
lose twice before it is elminated.

Alarm Systems
Asheville Alarm Systems, Inc.
of Asheville is installing alarm
systems in homes and in
businesses. Charles R. Culp
stated that a number had already
been installed. He said that some
are monitor types (where the
police can hear what is going on
inside of the building) and some
are alarm systems which make a
noise. They are advertising in the
Bulletin.
Voter Registration
The Spartanburg County Voter
Registration will be held during
the next several months in
preparation for the November
election. People who do not have
a voting certificate and plan to
vote in the November general
election must be registered by
Oct. 4th.
For those who can’t register at
the courthouse during regular
working hours they will be in
Landrum on Aug. 26th at the town
hall and on Sept. 9th at the
Landrum Library.

Tryon Women’s Golf Assoc, was
the conclusion of the Annette
Merrill Tournament and Low
Gross on Par 3s and 5s. The
winners of the Annette Merrill
Tournament: Margaret Hannon
with net of 70; Adie Kirby. 2nd
with net of 71.

of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, have
purchased the home of Mr. and
Mrs Guy Shoemaker in Fairlane.
Mr Bannister was the owner of
the Bannister Insurance Agency
in Wisconsin.

Nutrition At
Kiwanis Tuesday
The Tryon Kiwanis Club will
meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at
Pacolet River Plantation. Ms.
Alice Spearman of Spartanburg
will speak on "Nutrition.” Otho
Gibbs is in charge of the
program.

Although the temperature
exceeded many scores on
Thursday, a large field competed
for Best Ball of Foursome from
the Silver Tees. Winners were
Fran Cody, Nancy Ernst, Beth
Leon, and Ellen Pettit. Next
week’s event will be Nine Blind
Holes, half handicap, net each
class.

Waldrop Gets
S&H Scholarship
GREENVILLE, S. C. — Tod A.
Waldrop, a 1980 graduate of
Landrum High School, has been
awarded a college scholarship by
The S&H Foundation in New
York. The foundation, sponsored
by The Sperry and Hutchinson
Company, annually awards a
number of scholarships to
children of employees of Sperry
and Hutchinson and its subsidiar
ies.
Tod is the son of Wayne E. and
Merlean T. Waldrop. Mrs.
Waldrop is Frequency Checker in
the Landrum Mill Industrial
Engineering Department for
Bigelow-Sanford, Inc., America’s
oldest and one of the largest
carpet manufacturers, a sub
sidiary of The Sperry and
Hutchinson Company.
Tod was one of 29 winners in the
scholarship competition. There
were more than 119 entries.
