The Horace Elliotts recently lost their home by fire. The Sunny View Ruritan Club is putting on a Gospel Sing Friday at 8 p.m. at the Sunny View School for their benefit. The singing will be held outside and everyone is encour aged to bring their own chairs. Present will be the Lake Lure Singers, Coopers Gap Quartet and The Summits. If anyone has any furniture, etc. that they would like to donate to the Elliotts, contact Bud Wilson or Glenn Burgess. Doris Scoggins has a slide program with tape that tells of the “Responsibilities of Register of Deeds.” It is produced by Arcota Micrafilm and narrated by Bill Campbell of the N. C. Institute of Government. Mrs. Scoggins said that it is available for civic groups, school classes, etc. Promoted. Doug Roach has been promoted from Associate Agricultural Extension Agent to Agricultural Extension Agent according to Agricultural Exten sion Chairman Reagan Ammons. The Church League Softball Continued On Back Page Lions To Have Cubs As Guests The Tryon Lions Club will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The Lions Club sponsored the Cubs Senior League baseball team this summer and the team will be their guests tonight. The team, which won the Senior League pennant, was managed by Tommy Radford. Senior Citizens’ Watermelon Party The Polk County Senior Citizens’ Club will have their annual watermelon party at Mrs. Cain’s Sandy Plains Lake on Monday, July 28, beginning at 5:30. Each person or family will provide a covered dish and drink. Members will bring picnic supplies such as plastic knives, forks and spoons, paper plates, napkins, a plastic garbage bag and their own chair. Watermelon will be supplied by the club. All senior citizens are welcome to come and enjoy the fellowship, food and music. BUILDING HOME Mr. and Mrs. Dan Young of Landrum are building a home in Cordage Woods. LAKE LURE LIONS MEET THURSDAY The next meeting of The Lake Lure Lions Club will be on Thursday July 24th at 7:30 at The Fairview Mountain Club. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Winston Hoy, Jr. (Laura Jackson) of Ocean Lakes, S. C. are parents of a son, William Winston, III, born July 17th in Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy have a daughter, Kathryn, age 3. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jackson II of Ocean Lakes, S. C. and Mrs. Hoy Winston of Rutherfordton. The great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jackson of Tryon. Win Doubles A number of local tennis players participated in the City of Asheville Open Tennis Champ ionships. Betty Warthen and Vesta Cornwell defeated Peggy Andrews and Jane Fowler 6-0, 6-2 to win the title in the Women’s 45. Vesta Cornwell and Lee Haslem were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Mixed Doubles; Lee Haslem and Brewster Cornwell lost in the quarterfinals of the Men’s 45 doubles. Henry Garrett, Rt. 2, Mill Spring is a patient at the VA Hospital at Oteen. Beverly Ramsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ramsey of Fox Mtn. Road, attended a two-week, 30th annual N. C. Radio-Television Institute at Chapel Hill. The students produced radio and television shows that included interviews, newscasts and short dramatic stories. Move Here Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Francis, Jr. of Brooklyn, N. Y. have moved into their home in Mountain Shadows, Rt. 1, Columbus. (William Metzler house). Mr. Francis has retired from Cele- nese Corp, where he was vice president. He is a graduate of Yale University. Mrs. Francis is the former Barbara Joan Thomas of Brookline, Mass. They enjoy golf and traveling. They are Presbyterians. They have three grown children: Mrs. Gary C. Kersteen, North Graham, Conn.; Thomas S. Francis, Boston, Mass, and Robert C.
