The Little League game
between Rutherfordton and the
winner of the Polk County-Forest
City game Thursday will be at
5:30 today at Harmon Field. The
games have been well attended.
Shank Hipp has done a good job in
getting the field ready for the
tournament. The field is used
every day for Little League or
softball.
The preliminary census shows
that Landrum's population is now
1,927 and increase of 3 percent
over 1,859 in 1970.
The Polk County Senior
Citizens Club will have its annual
watermelon party Monday at
5:30 p.m. at Lake Sandy Plains.
British actor Peter Sellers died
early Thursday morning at
London’s Middlesex Hospital. He
was 54.

River Plantation. The speaker
will be George Stothoff, who will

Mrs. Hazel Wall Smith of
Columbus has announced the
engagement of her daughter,
Sylvia Jean, of Columbus to John
William Menard, Jr. of Indian
Harbor Beach, Fla. He is the son
of Major (ret.) and Mrs. John
William Menard of Indian Harbor
Beach.
The wedding will be Saturday
at 8p.m. at the United Methodist
Church in Columbus.

Gymnastics
In Saluda
Saluda School’s Summer Re-
creation Program in conjunction
with the Polk County Community
Schools Program will start
classes in gymnastics on Mon
day, July 28 in the school gym.
Classes will be from 1:30 to 2:30
each day for two weeks. Amanda
Johnson, a member of the East
High Gymnastics Team, will be
the instructor. Contact the school

LITTLE LEAGUE TODAY
The Rutherfordton Little Lea

Nelson Parris, 55, of Gaffney,
S. C. died Thursday morning in
Spartanburg General Hospital
after a long illness.
He was a brother of Mrs.
Frances Green of Tryon.
